The Sadhana of Mahamudra

"Which quells the mighty warring of the three lords of materialism and brings realization of the ocean of siddhas of the practice lineage"
-Vidyadhara the venerable
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
The Sadhana of Mahamudra is an important text given to us by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche at a turning point in his presentation of Buddhist teachings in the West. The Tibetan text is terma, and the English translation was considered by the Vidyadhara also to be terma because of the ease with which it was accomplished. Terma are teachings that were concealed by the great Tibetan teacher Padmasambhava for the sake of future generations, and are rediscovered by a terton such as Trungpa Rinpoche when they are needed.
The Sadhana of Mahamudra is a binding factor for our community because students at all levels of practice can participate and experience a profound presentation of the spiritual path. One of its important teachings is that the nature of the practice itself undercuts any ideas and agendas of spiritual materialism.
The Sadhana of Mahamudra is scheduled at the Vancouver Shambhala Meditation Centre on the new and full moon days. The practice lasts about an hour and involves both chanting and silent meditation. Texts for the practice are provided at the Centre and all levels of practitioners are warmly invited to participate. The dates on which the practice is currently scheduled are listed below. As necessary, updates to the schedule will be posted on the Centre’s on-line calendar
