Practice: Your Personal Journey

The one who does not meditate, but merely holds the view, is like a rich man tethered by stinginess. He is unable to bring appropriate fruition to himself and others.
- Jamgön Kongtrül Rinpoche
Practice is the foundation of our path. Without practice, there is no sense of journey. The most important and fundamental component is a commitment to regular, individual practice. After that, group practice can help support and deepen one’s personal journey. We offer the following opportunities for the group practice of shamatha-vipashyana meditation; all are open to the public and do not have any prerequisites.
Please check our Calendar for dates of the following offerings
- Open House: group meditation from 7:00 – 8:00 PM every Wednesday
- Community Practice Weekends: shamatha-vipashyana meditation practice in the small shrine room from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM Saturday and Sunday; check our Calendar for when these weekends are offered (usually one per month).
- Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies meditation intensive weekends (taken in sequence, offered periodically at various local Centres):
a) Nine Stages of Shamatha
b) Four Foundations of Mindfulness
c) Vipashyana & Union (union of shamatha and vipashyana)
- Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies advanced practice weekends, recommended for later on in the path, but can be taken at any time; offered periodically at various local Centres:
a) Maitri & Five Wisdoms
b) Sadhana of Mahamudra
- Sadhana of Mahamudra: the public is also invited to our regular practice of the Sadhana of Mahamudra, on the new and full moon days of the lunar calendar. The text presents a fruitional vajrayana view, yet students at all levels can participate.
